The Vetala Panchavimshati, also known as Vikram–Vetala, is a classical Sanskrit collection of twenty-five tales in which Emperor Vikramaditya must capture a spirit hanging from a tree in a cremation ground. Each time he carries the vetala away, the spirit tells a story that ends in a riddle — and with every answer, the cycle begins again.

These are not ghost stories. They are disciplined inquiries into judgment, testing discernment, courage, and restraint. In this series, the wind opens each tale — setting the night and the path, the case ahead. What follows is a dialogue between king and vetala, shaped by questions and consequence.

Each episode explores how justice speaks across time and place, and at the close of every episode, a practicing/studying lawyer/student reflects on the dilemma through today’s justice system, narrating a real case and verdict — because while centuries pass, the architecture of judgment endures.

Episode 1: The Weave of Dissent (The Loom of Ujjain)
Modern Day Setting: The Supreme Court of United states when presented with such a case,
they delivered a verdict as narrow as Vikram’s walk.  Listen to the episode on how they "punted" the riddle.

But tell me — have you ever denied something your heart believed was sacred, simply because the world demanded it?

"With unwavering resolve, King makes his way to the ancient tree. He lowered the lifeless corpse from the branch, slung it across his broad shoulders, and began his silent journey through the darkened cremation grounds.." Then, the Betal, dwelling within the corpse spoke...
